In some cases, caseworkers show up at doorsteps without even so much as a complaint filed. In other cases, numerous calls have been made to childline reporting abuse. These calls have been ignored. In fact, we spoke with an individual who had been tagged by BCCYS. Childline had been told to "ignore" any calls that came in about certain children. If BCCYS is doing this for one family, surely they are doing this for others. Why?
Follow the money. Here is an excellent article by a fellow blogger explaining exactly what CYS does. The article is written geared towards CYS(known as CPS in other states) in CA. These agency is getting a lot of press due to their mishandling of the baby Sammy case. But agencies all over the country behave in much the same way.

The Commissioners boldly proclaim that there was money in the budget to hire child abuse detectives, yet the county is seriously underfunded in many areas. Why? Perhaps because child abuse is big money in Berks. Note how when caseworkers in BCCYS received a supposed reduction in salary, taxes increased? This agency is a cash cow for Berks County.
It is also has a budget of $39 MILLION! Why? Why would one agency in Berks County, a small county at that have such a large budget? A government agency has such a budget yet Reading is listed as one of the poorest cities in America. Detectives have been hired with supposedly dozens of cases which no one seems to know much about.
In fact, we asked around and could not find one person who actually knew that their cases were being handled by these detectives. We indeed called the office and asked how cases get transferred to these detectives and we could not find answers.
Are the individuals who run Berks County more concerned with their budget or with the welfare and safety of their citizens?
Kovarie told the comish's that 160 kids were adopted out of Berks County last year. I wonder what the demographics were. How many of those kids were young, white babies as opposed to teens with disciplinary problems? Just sayin'.....
ReplyDeleteI've been saying for years now that CYS is a money making operation. CYS in Luzerne County was part of the famous kids for cash scandal and some of the caseworkers were getting kick backs and only got suspended with pay.
ReplyDeleteMy grand children david trista farrah and yanna were never abused they were taken out of poverty family members have tryed to get children on kinship cys is making it impossible plus are making excuses and cancling. Visits the childrenare beautiful all between ages 1and 4 years old and doug and edie tryed to get me to talk my son in letting a preacher adopt them because they struggling with money saying they would all together. So the mother and father are still working on doing what cys wants plus getting a home for them sleves and children.But still they were taken because of poverty and family has been trying to get them but they can not be heard in court lawyer working for family is court appointed and not letting voice be heard their is no abuse its been a month since family has seen family. We have went from n.c to pa.3 times to get them and we can not again there was no child abuse just poverty thought they help with that I want my sweet Grandchildren back before they are abused and why can't the uncle. In north carolina get the children till they the mother amd father get ther selves together plus we will keep and take care of these children working on buying 4 or5 bedroom house so we can keep these children. There children are happy and there is a reason they only want to let. Mother and father see them every two weeks and its been befor christmas since wher the whole family was living and they made mother leave and kept the girls. I want to see my grand children and I know ther was no abuse they had me living with them. Mosy of time this is pure poverty NOT ABUSE.. Delores HENSLEY
