These days, computers are essential for handling the daily input and output of an business, even big businesses like the US government. Several years back, the county controller in Reading, Pennsylvania, voiced her department's computer problem at a meeting of county commissioners.(NOTE: SHE HAD TO GO TO THE COMISSIONERS TO GET AN OFFICE COMPUTER PROBLEM RESOLVED? The problem was not that she didn't have a computer, it was that her computer hadn't worked in two years. (WAIT, SHE TRIED FOR TWO YEARS TO GET HER COMPUTER ISSUES RESOLVED, COULDN'T AND HAD TO GO TO THE COMMISSIONERS FOR HELP? SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT.)
She was forced to type letters, memos and do all written business on a typewriter. (SCANDALOUS!)
The county controller added, "If we had a computer, letters would go out faster".
Three days AFTER the meeting, the woman announced that the problem had finally been fixed. The problem that had eluded the county for two years?
DRUM ROLLLLLLLLLL......
The computer was not plugged in.
Berks County's IT Department is one of the most unethical, corrupt, and unprofessional environments I have ever encountered in my 15 year career. Believe me I could write a book.
