Electronic Monitoring Units Used by CYS In Some PA Counties

Follow this link to read the article. In this article, some counties in Western PA use alarms to "diffuse" violent family situations. The child presses the alarm and according tot he article, the authorities are notified.

This is interesting for several reasons:

1. It is very intrusive. CYS will install an electronic monitoring unit in your home!
2. It places quite a bit of responsibility on the child and puts the child at risk of becoming a target for the abuser.
3. What happens when CYS does nothing to protect the child? The abuser will eventually learn that the alarm means nothing.
4. The alarm must be approved by CYS, which means that some families who actually may need the unit may not get units.
5. How much do such services cost?
6. Suppose an irate family member damages or de-activates a unit?
